shoestrings and ribbon.

Bentley has a slight obsession with shoestrings, drawstrings, ribbon, and basically anything that ties. He pulled this ribbon off of me so that he could chew on it for a half an hour or more. He will climb into the shoe basket and pull it over just so he can play with the shoestrings and shoes inside of it. He also has grown very fond of EVERYTHING he is not supposed to touch, like printer cables and wires (he is trying to get to them right now). He actually chewed on my phone charger and broke it so my cell phone has been dead for a week and will continue to be dead until my new one arrives in the mail. He gets told "NO" or "Nananana No" or "Ah Ah Ah" often and we are starting to get worried that his first word will be "No." He is a stinker but he is so stinkin' cute and it is still crazy to think that stinker number 2 will be here in less than 3 months!

how is LA?

LA is getting better. The people who live here are very strange though. Here are a few examples:

1. I was leaving the mall with a friend and was putting my stroller in the trunk when some lady honked at me. My first thought was "She did not just honk at me to hurry it up!" So I continued what I was doing and then she rolled her window down to ask me if I was leaving.

Let's think about it, Lady! I am putting a stroller in my trunk which means: A) I am leaving, and B) I have a baby so why in the @!$% would you honk!

2. Matt and I went to Costco on friday night to get lots of stuff. The guy in front of us at check out was confused as to why he needed a coupon to get the discount on the item. I offered him my coupon book and told him the coupon might be in there. He was nice and thanked me. The cashier (employee of Costco) waited until the guy flipped through all of the coupons to tell him that the one he was looking for was not in that book. So the customer asked him where he could get the coupon. The cashier impatiently told him that he didn't have one and if he wanted the discount he should have thought about that before he purchased the item. To sum it up the customer told the cashier he was rude (which he definitely was) and the cashier started swearing at the customer and calling him all sorts of inappropriate names even using the F word and yelling at him while the guy went to talk to a manager on the otherside of the store.

When is it appropriate to blow up at a customer when you work in customer service? NEVER! And when are you justified in cussing at a customer in front of lots of other customers? NEVER! Why did this guy think it was all right to act that way while he was working and representing his place of employment?

3. I live in a large student housing apartment complex. As I walk to my car, take the trash out, or go to the playground I pass people all of the time. And when I walk down to the grocery store or go on my morning walk I pass people often. When I say "Hi" people ignore me or just look the other way. Most of the time they won't even make eye contact with you when you walk past them. It's almost like they think I'm going to pull an AK47 out of my diaper bag and get them. I have honestly only had one person say hi to me when I pass in 4 months! At first I thought maybe they couldn't hear me because I wasn't talking loud enough or maybe I was even mumbling. So I started consciously saying it louder...they still ignore me.

4. I did some Christmas shopping at the Ross right next to my home. While I was there this creepy old guy kept looking at the stuff that always seemed to be right next to the items that I was looking at. And this old asian lady came up to me and said something in a language I didn't understand. So I told her I didn't understand. So she repeated herself 3 times and asked me "OK?" Finally I just replied "OK" so she would leave me alone. About 15 minutes later she did it to me again on the other side of the store. Hopefully she didn't put a hex on me! I haven't been back to that store again.

CONCLUSION...People that live in LA are wierd! They are selfish, only concerned about themselves and what they want and incredibly unfriendly. And if they act inappropriately nobody does anything about it (liberals!).

I understand that not all people here are that way, but there sure are a lot more of them here than everywhere else I have lived, and I have lived in lots of places! I have made some great friends here and I am glad that there are people here that share my same outlook on life. I feel bad for people that go through life completely involved in only themselves, for people that can't even say hello back to someone or look at them when they walk past another human being (they'll talk to the squirrels though!).

orange you glad you're my friend?
My True Color is Orange

Janni did this on her blog so I tried it out. Her color is brown-her favorite color-and mine is orange-my favorite color. Kind of funny!

You're a bold, confident orange. A warm, powerful color that indicates a strong, welcoming personality, orange is the mark of people who are social and extroverted by nature. Vibrant, with an upbeat attitude, you have a bright, inviting demeanor. Energetic and fun-loving, you're a real friend-magnet. Your easy charm and unassuming manner make you the sort of person people want to meet and get to know better. Well-rounded and fun to be around, you enjoy helping others, so it's no surprise that orange also symbolizes attraction. Orange is an extraordinary color — for an extraordinary person.

At least the "well rounded" part is right because I am feeling very round these days!

santa monica beach.

On Tuesday we went to the beach with some friends. It was actually very warm and lots of fun. Our friends Tiffany & Indy, and Tara, Erik and Isaac went with us. We only live about 10 minutes away from the beach, but it takes forever to pack all of the stuff and actually get down to the water. I just have to figure out how I'm going to get the 2 kids to the beach while Matt is at school this summer... the beaches here are way wider than down in Orange County and you have to lug your stuff through the sand forever! It was hard enough being preggers doing it...I'm sure I'll figure out a way if it means working on my tan! And we all know that is a major priority in my life!

This is Bentley's girlfriend Indy. They like to look at each other and smile. He gave her applesauce kisses today. She has more hair than he does so he likes to pull on it.

5 years.

Matt and I celebrated our 5th anniversary on December 28th. In some ways the past 5 years have gone by quickly, and in other ways it definitely seems like 5 years. In the past 5 years...

  1. I have had 6 jobs

  2. We've moved 3 times (5 if you count being at my parents' last summer)

  3. I've been pregnant twice (my poor husband)

  4. We've had one little boy and another is on his way

  5. We've made tons of friends

  6. Kept lots too

  7. I've been on a diet most of that 5 years except for the 14 months I've been pregnant!

  8. Matt started and graduated college

  9. Matt started dental school

  10. We're pretty sure we're going to make it!

We celebrated by going to Ti Amo's in South Laguna. We haven't been in forever...it was pretty good. We celebrated our first Valentine's Day there back in 1998! Afterwards we went to a movie for the first time in 6 months or so!

On our first wedding anniversary we toasted to "No babies". This time there was no such toast, or any other toast!

I love Matt!

happy new year!

Sorry for the delay! Here is what you've been waiting for! Now your life can go back to the norm!
We drove home Thursday, December 13th after Matt's last final. Don't worry, he practically aced all of his exams, whatta smarty pants! On Friday night we went to Jenny & Jimmy's Christmas party and had an awesome time reconnecting with old friends from college. Mom and Dad babysat Bentley and Trace's kids too.
Saturday the 14th we went to my parent's ward Christmas party. How I ended up on Santa's lap I have no idea, the poor man! Santa was more afraid of Bentley than Bentley was afraid of him. He was worried Bentley would cry and pull off his beard.
Christmas Eve. We took Bentley and Luke to Salt Creek Beach. They both snacked on some tasty rocks covered in sand. We went to dinner with Mom and Dad, Trace's family Janni, Marvin and Luke at Maggiano's. Then we went back home and the kids each opened a gift and played "find the pickle" and read the nativity story. The kids all got new pajamas to sleep in while they waited for Santa. And each of our families got an awesome camcorder from Mom and Dad.
Opening presents was a lot of work. This is how Bentley slept during his afternoon nap on Christmas, probably dreaming about all of the wonderful paper, bows and boxes that he gets to play with when he wakes up. He and Luke had fun playing with all of their toys and their wrappings. Grandad picked out the new Elmo that sings "Elmo loves you so so much" and his eyes light up with hearts. In the afternoon Trace's family came over and opened their presents and we had an early dinner.

After dinner we drove out to Temecula to spend Christmas night with Matt's family. It was well worth the drive to see Matt's nephew Mike that we haven't seen in a few years. Mike left for Iraq a couple of days ago. He is a marine and will be working on the humvies and other vehicles for the next 13 months. Bentley loved him and thought he was hilarious.

We made a post Christmas trip to I Love Bagels with Michelle and Shannon. The boys thouroughly enjoyed bagels and Cheerios.

And Wednesday afternoon we drove Marvin into LA to fly home to Utah. We spent a few hours at our apartment so that Mandy could see Luke and play with both of the babies. They were kind of cranky and we didn't realize until the next morning that they each had a new tooth. Bentley now has 2 bottom teeth.

And we got to hang out with Brian, Jane, Linz, Seth, and Shannon at Beach Cities Pizza. Oh the memories of breadsticks dancing in our heads!

And on New Year's Eve we went to lunch with the Glausers at Wahoo's and then hung out at Aliso Creek Beach in Laguna. Why does it seem that there is always food involved?
